Description: This is a miniature silver ingot made from a larger silver bar discovered on the Señora Nuestra de Atocha, that sank off the coast of Key West in 1622. This Atocha silver bar pendant is number 256 in a limited series of 1280 bars made.

History: The "Main Pile" of the Nuestra Señora de Atocha was found in 1985.  Over 950 Silver Bars where recovered!  The Silver in this hand cast piece came from one of the bars recovered in 1985 by Mel Fisher and his divers.  This silver has not been refined and is in a very pure form. The majority of the ingots were the property of individuals, although four tons of the cargo was revenue; and 133 bars were shipped in boxes marked with the red crown mark of King Philip IV.

Many of the ingots were mined and processed in upper Peru (modern day Bolivia). Each ingot was hand poured and them marked with a serial number which would be listed on the ship’s manifest. Once purity was established, the ingot would be marked with a “ley” mark to establish the fineness in Roman Numerals.
