Description: Philip IV-Charles II "Princess Louisa" Cob 4 Reales ND (1622-1701) Genuine NGC, Mexico City mint. Salvaged from the "Princess Louisa" (sunk in 1743 off the Cape Verde Islands). Salvor's Reserve Hoard.
History: The East Indiaman Princess Louisa was doomed by unexpected currents and imprecise charts which led it to a reef off Isla de Maio on April 18th, 1743. Though some of the crew escaped to safety on the nearby island, no cargo could be saved. The Princess Louisa was a British merchant ship that struck a reef off the Isle of May and sunk with 20 chests of Spanish and Spanish colonial currency, a total of 69,760 ounces of silver in 1743. The coins remained underwater until a 1998/9 salvage operation.
